Category charts utilize an X/Y matrix of existing point values.   Each point is assigned to a category which is on the X axis and a series which is on the Y axis of the chart builder pane, however, the final rendered chart will display the categories as groups.  A given category chart may be displayed as a  bar chart, column chart, or area chart.  A time chart grouped by time will also present as a category chart.
